The Process

Somethings not working.

You’re feeling stuck. Repeating those old patterns repeatedly while knowing that they just aren’t working for you anymore. “Why do I keep doing this?” you ask yourself. Or perhaps you are living in chronic dysregulation (depression, anxiety, shut-down) and just can’t seem to find your way out. I understand how overwhelming this can be and I want you to know that there’s a bigger picture going on under the surface that will become clearer as we work together. You’re not broken, and there’s a reason why you are feeling so stuck. Together, we will explore the dynamics contributing to your difficulties, and begin cultivating true change and healing.

I’m on the journey with you.

In our sessions you can expect connection and attunement with a non-judgmental therapist. I will be an active participant and guide in the process, attuning to your unique story, and giving you the support you need to feel safe and seen. I will teach you research-backed and up-to-date strategies to begin implementing in your life and relationships that will help bring about lasting, positive change.

What therapeutic modalities do I use with clients? My work is largely informed by  Psychodynamic and Attachment Theory, Polyagal Theory, Acceptance and Commitment Theory, Organic Intelligence and  Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy, I believe that using these frameworks together will support you in the 3 areas that are most beneficial for real change (1) Helping you understand your conditioning and early attachment patterns through in-depth exploration (ie: why you do the thing you do)  (2) Learning how to consciously begin showing up in a new and more adaptive way, according to your highest, healthiest self  (3) Learning new mindfulness, regulation, and meditation  practices to deepen your connection to yourself, others and the world.

I look forward to sharing this exciting and new journey with you!

Sincerely,

About Kelly LaPorta
My love for people, the mind, and psychology started young. I knew at 17 that I wanted to be a therapist one day. I graduated from Point Loma Nazarene University with a BS in Psychology in 2009 and then from Fuller Seminary with my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy in 2012. My experience in many diverse settings has helped me expand my therapeutic knowledge and gain more depth in my work. I have worked in both community based mental health settings with at-risk populations, as well as private practice settings.

During my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and 2 children (ages 4and 7) exploring the city, tasting interesting craft beers, and nerding out on all the latest research on neurobiology.
